I joined the finance team in Jurong in early 2022. My starting salary was S$2,800 a month and I worked hard to meet every target.

After a year I was told a raise to S$3,200 was coming in the next review. I started planning a small renovation for my HDB flat.

During the quarterly meeting my boss announced a "special performance bonus" for a teammate who had just closed a big deal. He mentioned a S$5,000 payout and praised the colleague publicly.

I congratulated the teammate, but the next day I saw a spreadsheet on the shared drive. It listed the bonus amount next to my name as S$0 and my teammate’s as S$5,000.

A few days later I was called into my boss’s office. He said the raise I expected was being postponed because of "budget constraints" and handed me a written warning for "inconsistent performance" despite my quarterly scores being above target.

I asked for clarification, but he brushed it off and said I should focus on my tasks. I felt my hard work was being ignored while favouritism rewarded a friend.

Now I am stuck. I could stay, hope the next review fixes things, and risk more warnings. Or I could hand in my resignation, lose the stability, and start job hunting in a market that is already tight.

Should I confront my boss about the hidden bonus even if it might cost me my job

Would you stay in a job after finding out you were being treated like this?
